Google Business Profile Updates (Nov 2026): What Local Businesses Should Do Now

Google changed or tested more Business Profile features in October 2026 than in most quarters. Most of these are tests, not confirmed ranking changes. But several affect how customers contact you, so it is worth a short check this week.

Here is what was reported, what it means for a dentist, law firm or local service business, and what to do.

What changed in October 2026

  • New performance reports (test): some profiles see detailed sections for engagement, reviews, audience and search trends, plus recommendations.
  • New local panel layout (test): business name, rating, description and buttons move above photos in some desktop results.
  • ID photo verification (test): some businesses are asked to upload a government ID to verify a profile. Google has not announced it.
  • Messaging: AI-powered messaging is expanding, Facebook Messenger links appear on some profiles, and some US businesses are asked for an EIN before turning on messages.
  • Restaurants can now switch off specific third-party ordering providers on their profile.
  • Review appeals are delayed. Google asks owners not to file duplicate appeals.

What it means for your business

None of these is a confirmed ranking update. The bigger effect is on clicks and contact. If your rating and buttons move to the top of the panel, a weak rating or missing call button is more visible. If messaging expands, slow replies cost leads.

For dentists, it means new-patient booking links and accurate insurance details matter more. For law firms, it means clear practice areas, office hours and a fast response to messages. For trades, it means a working call button and current service areas.

What to do this week

  • Save a dated copy of your current performance numbers, so you can compare if the new reports appear.
  • Check your verification status and keep your business documents ready in case Google asks for ID or an EIN.
  • Decide who answers profile messages, and turn messaging off if nobody can reply within a few hours.
  • Check your call, booking and website buttons work on mobile.
  • Leave pending review appeals alone instead of filing again.

Frequently asked questions

Will these updates change my Google Maps ranking?
Google has not confirmed any ranking change from them. They mostly affect how your profile looks and how customers contact you.
Should I upload my ID if Google asks?
If the request appears inside your real Business Profile account, it is part of Google's own verification. Never send ID through emails or calls claiming to be Google.
Can you manage our profile for us?
Yes. We handle Business Profile setup, reviews, posts and reporting as part of local SEO. Contact us for a custom quote.
